Nach ihrem Start im Jahr 2005 fand die Serie mit Jensen Ackles und Jared Padalecki in den Hauptrollen rasch viele Fans und erfreute sich im Laufe der Zeit schließlich so großer Beliebtheit, dass sie erst ganze 15 Jahre später ein wohlverdientes Ende fand. Das sind Zeiträume, von denen die schnelllebigen Streaming-Serien dieser Tage nur träumen können.

„Supernatural“ hat sich von daher so tief in das kollektive Bewusstsein einer ganzen Fernsehgeneration eingebrannt, dass nun immer wieder Rufe nach einem Revival der Serie laut werden. Und tatsächlich hat Jared Padalecki, der den jüngeren Bruder Sam Winchester spielte, im Rahmen eines Auftrittes in dem von Tommy DiDario moderierten Podcast „I’ve Never Said This Before“ nun etwas Holz in den Ofen der Hoffnungen geworfen.

„Ich will keine weiteren 15 Jahre Supernatural machen. Ich will keine weiteren 5 Jahre Supernatural machen, ich brenne darauf, ein Reboot von Supernatural zu machen, ähnlich wie das ‚Gilmore Girls‘ Reboot. Hier sind vier eineinhalbstündige Episoden. Wir werden sie in drei Monaten drehen. Ich glaube, Jensen [Ackles] und ich sagten beide im Jahr 2020: ‚Wir würden diese Charaktere und diese Welt gerne wiedersehen. Gebt uns fünf Jahre.‘ Das ist nächstes Jahr. Und ich sehe ihn oft. Und wir reden oft miteinander. Ich glaube, er und ich sind beide sehr begierig darauf, es zu tun. Ich bin sicher, dass ich wieder Sam Winchester spielen werde.“

Mit Neuauflagen kennt sich Padalecki aus, hatte er in „Walker“ doch jüngst den gleichnamigen Texas Ranger gespielt, der nach elf Monaten Undercover zu seinen Kindern zurückkehrt und den Tod seiner Frau aufklären muss. Die meisten werden es schon geahnt haben: Bei dem Projekt handelt es sich um eine Neuauflage der Chuck Norris-Serie „Walker, Texas Ranger“.

Jensen Ackles war nach dem Ende von „Supernatural“ in der dritten Staffel der Amazon-Erfolgsserie „The Boys“ zu sehen, wo er in einer fiesen Parodie auf Captain America den Soldier Boy spielte. Außerdem verdingte er sich als Synchronsprecher, so etwa als Stimme von Batman im Animationsfilm „Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths“, und wird demnächst als LAPD-Sonderermittler in der Thriller-Serie „Countdown“ auf den Bildschirm zurückkehren.
