Trotz der eingeschränkten Perspektive erinnert die Darstellung jedoch bereits stark an das Design der ursprünglichen Spielzeugfigur von Mattel – sehr zum Wohlwollen der Fans, denen bisher lediglich geleakte Set-Aufnahmen und ein Promofoto vergönnt waren, das bloß einen Teil des Oberkörpers und das Schwert zeigte.

Der neue „Masters of the Universe“ ist der zweite Versuch einer Live-Action-Adaption der gleichnamigen Spielzeugreihe von Mattel, nachdem der erste Streifen aus dem Jahr 1987 die Fans enttäuscht zurückgelassen hatte. Der aktuelle Film spielt sowohl auf dem außerirdischen Planeten Eternia als auch auf der Erde.

Offiziell ist noch nichts, Gerüchten zufolge soll es in der Geschichte aber darum gehen, dass Prinz Adam als Kind auf der Erde abstürzt und dabei sein magisches Schwert verliert. Erst etwa zwanzig Jahre später findet er dieses wieder und kehrt nach Eternia zurück. Dort hat der Schurke Skeletor, verkörpert von Jared Leto, inzwischen die Macht übernommen. Um den Planeten aus der Schreckensherrschaft zu befreien, muss Adam seiner Bestimmung folgen und zum Krieger He-Man werden.

Der Cast umfasst neben Nicholas Galitzine in der Hauptrolle und Jared Leto als Skeletor weitere namhafte Darsteller. Camilla Mendes übernimmt die Rolle der Teela, Idris Elba spielt Waffenmeister Duncan. Alison Brie ist als Evil-Lyn zu sehen, Morena Baccarin als Zauberin von Grayskull. Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson verkörpert den Krieger Fisto, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson tritt als Goat Man auf. Die Rollen von König Randor und Königin Marlena, den Eltern von Prinz Adam, werden von James Purefoy und Charlotte Riley gespielt.

Die Regie des Films übernimmt Travis Knight, bekannt durch Produktionen wie „Kubo – Der tapfere Samurai“ und „Bumblebee“. Das Drehbuch stammt von Chris Butler, der unter anderem durch „ParaNorman“ bekannt wurde. Produziert wird das Projekt von Amazon. Der Kinostart ist für den Sommer 2026 vorgesehen, eine anschließende Veröffentlichung auf dem hauseigenen Streamingdienst ist geplant.
