Damit schlägt das Franchise ein letztes Kapitel auf. Ursprünglich war einmal von einer finalen Trilogie die Rede, doch Universal Pictures entschied sich letztlich für ein einzelnes, großes Finale. Der Regieposten bleibt in den Händen von Louis Leterrier, der bereits „Fast & Furious 10“ inszenierte und nun erneut die Herausforderung übernimmt, eine Geschichte zu erzählen, die sowohl Fans der ersten Stunde als auch das moderne Blockbuster-Publikum bedienen soll.

Interessant ist vor allem der Kontrast zwischen der sorgfältigen Ankündigung und der Unsicherheit im Hintergrund. Jason Momoa, der in „Fast X“ als Dante Reyes eingeführt wurde, gab zu, dass er „kein Drehbuch gesehen“ habe und bislang keine konkreten Informationen erhalten hätte. Es sei nicht ausgeschlossen, dass er eines Tages einfach zum Dreh gerufen werde, ohne die Handlung im Vorfeld zu kennen.

Ein Szenario, das in diesem Franchise nicht völlig überraschend wirkt, schließlich wurde schon bei „Fast X“ improvisiert und stellenweise ohne festen Regisseur weitergearbeitet. Sicher ist hingegen, dass „Fast X Part 2“ direkt an das Ende des Vorgängers anknüpfen wird. Details zum Inhalt gibt es nicht, doch die Saga ist bekannt dafür, Cliffhanger in waghalsige Action-Szenarien zu verwandeln.

Diesel selbst sprach bereits im Sommer 2025 darüber, dass Universal den Kinostart im April 2027 plane. Ein Blick zurück zeigt, wie weit die Reihe gekommen ist. Als 2001 mit „The Fast and the Furious“ ein kleiner Actionfilm über Straßenrennen, Undercover-Cops und loyale Freundschaften erschien, konnte niemand ahnen, dass daraus ein weltumspannendes Milliarden-Franchise entstehen würde.

Über die Jahre wurden die Einsätze immer größer, die Kulissen internationaler und die Stunts zunehmend größenwahnsinnig. Ob Autos, die von Hochhäusern springen, Fahrzeuge mit Fallschirmen oder Verfolgungsjagden mit einem Atom-U-Boot – die Reihe setzte immer neue Maßstäbe im Action-Kino. Mit „Fast & Furious 7“ erreichte das Franchise 2015 seinen kommerziellen Höhepunkt.

Doch spätestens bei „Fast X“ zeigte sich, dass die Formel erste Risse bekommen hatte. Trotz einem gigantischem Budget von rund 340 Millionen US-Dollar spielte der Film weltweit etwa 705 Millionen ein – solide, aber nicht mehr der Blockbuster-Megahit, den die Studios erwartet hatten.
